Hello Geology Majors,
I hope that you are doing well as we move through the week before Thanksgiving. This week, I want to talk about participating in student organizations.
Participating in student organizations where they are academic, professional, or social is a great way to gain experience working with groups of people and organizing events. You can also get some leadership experience by serving as an officer of a student organization. Have you been participating in a student organization this year? If yes, have you considered a leadership role within the organization? If not, have you looked into student organizations that might interest you?
Student Leadership, Involvement, and Community Engagement maintains a system called NvolveU that is a way to find student organizations affiliated with UNL that meet your interests. There are more than 500 registered student organizations available on campus, and I would strongly encourage you to get involved in something. I would also encourage you to pursue a leadership position in a student organization during your time as a student.
Did you miss priority registration for the Spring 2023 semester which wrapped up last week? There is still plenty of time to enroll in classes for the upcoming spring semester, and I would urge you to spend some time planning out your courses. I am still available for both meetings and drop-in advising to help you with that planning, so please do not hesitate to see me for a meeting.
Do you have hold on your MyRed account that is blocking your ability to enroll in classes for the spring semester? Now is the time to get to work on getting this hold or holds removed from your record, and I would be glad to help with doing so in any way that I can. However, I normally cannot help with a hold unless you meet with me, but I would be happy to help with any questions that you have outside of a meeting.
Best wishes, Doug
