Help Needed for Dinosaurs & Disasters!
Every year the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences teams up with the University of Nebraska State Museum in Morrill Hall to host Dinosaurs & Disasters. This is a one-day event where we have tables set up around the museum with interactive activities for kids of all ages. This year the event will be held on Saturday, Feb 4th.
We really need the help of the students to make this event a success. We are a bit short-handed this year and could use some help! This is a good way to get to know some of the other students and faculty in the department and it is also a great item to add to your resume.
Some of the stations that need help are listed below:
• Geyser! (a hot water demo that creates geysers)
• Comet creations and Meteorites/Meteorwrongs (create comets out of dry ice)
• Weather Forecasting (kids use a green screen to record a weather forecast)
• Earthquakes! (kids use a shake table to see if their buildings can survive)
• Climate Timeline Racetrack (interactive game to learn about climate through time)
No prior knowledge is needed to help with the stations as the station leads will get you up to speed with anything that you need to know. If you are willing to help, please reach out to Mindi Searls (msearls2@unl.edu; do not reply directly to this email as it will go to Tina) or go to the document linked below and add your name to the section at the bottom that says "Volunteers without a Station". If you have a preference for the station you would like to work with, you can include that information as well. If you want to help, but none of the stations listed sound interesting to you, please reach out and we can find a station that works for you.
