Name: Alexis Downs
Major: Geology
Year in School: Sophomore

Where are you from?

I am from Omaha, Nebraska.

What gets you excited about Geology?

What gets me excited about geology is learning about Earth's history and the formation of different rocks and minerals and how the Earth has evolved throughout time.

Favorite Geology class or instructor so far? Why?

My favorite class so far has been Mineralogy (Geology 200) because I liked learning about different minerals and being able to look at and identify them under a microscope as well as in hand samples. We also got to go to the Black Hills for field experience which was an awesome trip and a way to get hands-on experience with fieldwork.

What are you excited about doing after graduation?

After graduation, I'm looking forward to going and exploring new places and learning about Earth's history and how it differs from place to place. I'm also looking forward to getting hands-on experience and actually going out and applying what I've learned.

What is a goal you have accomplished as a Husker?

A goal that I have accomplished as a Husker is making Deans List and maintaining a GPA above 3.5.

What do you wish you would have known when you started as a Geology Major that you know now?

Something that I wish I would have known before becoming a Geology major is that you need to spend a good amount of time reviewing things and skills that you are taught in order to do well. I've spent more time than I thought I would reviewing and studying and making sure that I have a good knowledge of whatever it is that I'm trying to learn.

What do you hope to cross off your “bucket list” in the next few years?

In the next few years I hope to cross visiting every continent off of my "bucket list.”
