Geology Student Spotlight
Name: Jessica Sorsen
Major: Geology
Year in School: Junior
Where are you from?
I am from Schuyler, NE.
What gets you excited about Geology?
I love to learn about how the Earth’s processes work. I especially enjoy learning about volcanic processes and how geologists study those processes.
Favorite Geology class or instructor so far? Why?
Volcanology has been my favorite class so far. I was able to learn more about something I have been fascinated with since I was in elementary school. After taking that class I became very interested in pursuing a career in Volcanology.
What are you excited about doing after graduation?
I am excited to try teaching in graduate school. I haven’t had a chance to teach a class and am really interested in it.
What is a goal you have accomplished as a Husker?
I have been able to be a part of a research project and get to help write the scientific paper for it.
What do you wish you would have known when you started as a Geology Major that you know now?
It is more important to learn the material in a class than to get an A.
What do you hope to cross off your “bucket list” in the next few years?
I hope to go see an active volcano in person.
