Assistant Seasonal Educator
Department: University of Nebraska State Museum- Morrill Hall
Estimated pay: $13.50 per hour
Hours expected: 30-40 hours per week

Role Description
Ready to share your passion for natural history and science, all while having loads of fun? Now hiring Seasonal Educators for Discovery Day Camp during summer 2024! The University of Nebraska State Museum is looking for enthusiastic seasonal educators who can serve as leaders and role models to campers. This is an excellent opportunity for education, science, and social work students. Seasonal Educators assist Lead Classroom Educators in planning curriculum and teaching daily camp activities. Depending on experience, seasonal educators may also lead teaching camp programs. Discovery Day Camp serves campers ranging from K-8th and consists of a wide variety of natural history and science topics including paleontology, astronomy, geology, anthropology, zoology, and much more.

Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old and have finished a year of undergraduate school.
- Ability to work a regular, Monday through Friday schedule during the summer from May 28th-August 6th
- Punctual and dependable
- Capable of working independently to accomplish shared goals
- Possess an eagerness to help children discover, create, learn, and have fun
- Commitment to a positive, fun and team-oriented working environment

Responsibilities
- Engage with campers during daily programs using positive, playful energy.
- Follow protocol when redirecting student interests and behaviors as needed
- Work productively with campers to complete projects and activities
- Take instruction from classroom lead educators and the extended learning coordinator with preparing materials and managing campers
- Establish a good rapport with the families of campers.
- Inform classroom lead educators or extended learning coordinator of any concerns affecting the camper
- Participate in all required trainings and certifications in compliance with our standards
- Act as an integral member of the Discovery Day Camp program team
- Help maintain a safe and clean summer program site

Qualifications
- At least three months of professional experience working with youth
- Group management, time management, and solid facilitation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated history of responsibility, dependability, and maturity
- Ability to be flexible, creative and adaptable to situations
- Demonstrated leadership/facilitator skills and safety/risk management skills
- Familiarity of basic science concepts (biology, botany, geology, ecology, astronomy, etc.) [preferred]
