Husker Student POWER Week is a time to celebrate the UNL experience. From career fairs to therapy dogs to football games, the week is filled with opportunities to help you discover your why, own your experience, balance your whole self, get involved, and grow your communities at UNL.

Each Husker Student POWER week event you attend enters you to win exciting prizes. The more you participate, the more you increase your likelihood of winning!

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 16
Husker Student POWER Survey opens
First year and new transfer students – tell us about your UNL experience so far! The survey will remain open until Friday, Sept. 27. It is just 12 questions and takes less than 60 seconds to complete. Complete the survey by Wednesday, Sept. 18 at noon to win tickets to Friday’s home football game. Complete the survey by Wednesday, Sept. 26 at noon to win tickets to Dear Evan Hansen at the Lied Center.

Voter Registration Booth
11 AM – 1 PM | @ Harper Dining

Do you need to register to vote before the election in November? The Husker Vote Coalition is here to help! The Husker Vote Coalition is a nonpartisan university committee run out of the Student Leadership, Involvement, and Community Engagement Office. Our helpful ambassadors will be tabling all week to help you get registered to vote.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17
Kiewit Café Grand Opening
7:30 AM – 3:30 PM | @ Kiewit Hall

Celebrate the grand opening of Kiewit Café with free samples and swag! Guests may also purchase a meal from the Café’s Mediterranean-inspired menu, featuring dishes made with whole grains, fruits, veggies, beans, seafood, healthy fats, and lean proteins. Kiewit Café’s unique menu supports Kiewit Hall’s WELL Building Institute Silver certification, demonstrating a commitment to human health and well-being.

Law School Essay Workshop
4 – 5 PM | @ Love Library South 221

Are you planning on applying to law school? This workshop will discuss what law schools are looking for in personal statements and provide you with writing exercises to begin the process of developing your individual story in a strong and compelling manner. This workshop will be co-presented by a writing expert from the UNL Writing Center.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18
Wake Up Wednesday
8:00 AM – 9:30 AM | @ all residence hall commons spaces

Fuel up with breakfast to POWER you through the week. Donuts, fruit, and coffee will be on-hand on the first-floor common spaces of residence halls. Grab a bite on the way to class and learn more about Husker Student POWER and the 4th Week Survey! **This event is open to on-campus residents only.

First Gen Nebraska Share-a-meal
11:30 – 1:00 PM | @ Willa Cather Dining Center

Being a first generation college student can be tough - but you’re not alone! The First Gen Share-a-meal is a time for first-generation students to connect with other first-gen students and to meet faculty and staff who are first-generation advocates. This is an opportunity to meet new people or to get to know your pre-existing connections better! You don’t need a meal plan to participate - this event provides a free meal to all first gen students that attend! Just scan your Ncard with one of the volunteers when you arrive. The term “first-generation” applies to the one in four UNL students who come from families whose parents/guardians do not have a four-year degree.

Big Red Pawp-Up – East Campus
12 – 1:30 PM | @ Dinsdale Family Learning Commons, Room 104

Feeling freaked out by the fourth week of classes? Come pet a dog and de-stress! Certified therapy dog teams visit Love Library and the Dinsdale Family Learning Commons monthly in this program for students, faculty, and staff. Big Red Pawp-Ups are organized by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CASNR), Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), and University Libraries in compliance with the University Policy on the Use of Animals. A special thank you to our local therapy dog teams, Domesti-PUPS, Healing Heart Therapy Dogs and Uplifting Paws.

Dr. Tara Ruttley of NASA: Presentation & Q&A
7:30 PM | @ Swanson Auditorium

NASA Astronaut Dr. Tara Ruttley is coming to UNL! Dr. Ruttley has spent her career at NASA in Human Exploration, where adaptability is everything. She is also a neuroscientist and knows that the brain literally changes for the better when we have a new experience. Dr. Ruttley will give a 45-minute presentation covering topics such as leadership, resilience, and her journey to becoming a successful scientist. The presentation will be followed by a 20-minute Q&A session with the audience.

Outdoor Glow in the Dark Yoga
8 – 9 PM | @ Meier Commons Green Space

Attend this outdoor Glow-in-the-Dark Yoga class to celebrate NIRSA Healthy Campus Week and to participate in the largest physical activity challenge in the nation! Yoga is a practice that connects the mind, body, and breath through physical postures (asanas). Bring your own mat, towel, or blanket. POWER Bowl Pop-Up

Come to Willa Cather Dining Center where you can make a customizable, nutrient-packed POWER bowl full of vibrant flavors and healthy ingredients! A wide variety of ingredients will ensure that you can accommodate your taste and dietary preferences. Learn about University Dining’s commitment to providing quality meals for all students’ well-being. The POWER Bowl Pop-up is open to anyone dining in Cather’s “all you care to eat” dining center. Decompress from Stress
6:30 – 7:30 PM | @ North side of Louise Pound Hall (side facing Burnett Hall)

Stop by the North side of Louise Pound Hall and decompress after your first chemistry exam while hanging out with the foster dogs from Brave Animal Rescue. Well-being is critical to prioritize after a big exam, and what better way than with a little puppy love? This event is sponsored by The Office of Student Advocacy and Support and local animal non-profit Brave Animal Rescue.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20
International Apple Day
All day | @ residence hall front desks

Enjoy a healthy snack courtesy of University Housing and Dining. Stop by the nearest residence hall’s front desk and pick up an apple to-go in celebration of International Apple Day! **This event is open to on-campus residents only.

Game Day Well-being Hours
8 AM - 12 PM | @ Campus Recreation Center (CREC)

Feeling ready to get out of your room or apartment but it’s too early for tailgating? Stop by Campus Rec for special instructional continuity day hours so you can get your workout in before game time!
