2024-25 Student Geological Project Assistant
The Conservation and Survey Division is seeking six undergraduate students to assist with a grant funded geological preservation project. Student Assistants may work 12-20 hours per week and will be required to work a minimum of four hours per shift. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Duties include assessing levels of sample preservation, photographing original core boxes and material, following set preservation and safety procedures, carefully repackaging geological material, and compiling metadata for database development. The project site is located at the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center (ENREEC) near Mead, NE. Students will travel from East Campus to ENREEC using a University of Nebraska vehicle. This is a grant funded position that will end approximately April 30, 2025, but may extend further beyond that date if additional funding is awarded.

Responsibilities
• Assess levels of preservation.
• Photograph original boxes and geological core/material.

Requirements
• University of Nebraska-Lincoln undergraduate student, enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester.
• US work authorization.
• A valid driver’s license in the State of Nebraska, excellent driving record check.
• Ability to work a minimum of four consecutive hours per shift.
Qualifications
• Geology or School of Natural Resources students preferred.
• Ability to stand long periods of time, lift a minimum of 25 lbs with assistance, work in a dusty environment.
• Demonstrate an ability to adhere to safety protocols.
• Able to work independently and as a project team member.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, meets deadlines.
• Attention to detail, emphasis on quality and accuracy.
• Reliable and dependable.
• Experience working with Excel.
At A Glance
$15.00 per hour; 12-20 hrs/wk
8:00 AM – 6:00 PM (minimum 4 hrs/shift)
Monday-Friday
9.13.24 – 04.30.25 (potential for extension)
