Hello Geology Majors,
I hope the sixth week of the semester is going well for you and that you are nearly finished with the first round of midterm exams, papers, and projects. It is a great idea to visit your course instructor during office hours anytime, but it can be especially helpful to do so after the first exam. Many students can improve their next exam grade by taking the time to review the previous exam with their instructor.
The schedule of classes for the Spring 2025 semester will be published on Monday, October 7th ahead of Priority Registration starting on Monday, October 28th. When the spring schedule is published, your priority registration date and time will assigned and available in MyRed. You will also have access to your shopping cart and spring semester scheduling in the Enrollment Scheduler. Instructions for using the Enrollment Scheduler can be found at https://registrar.unl.edu/student/registration/tutorials/. This webpage includes videos as well as step by step screenshot instructions, and it can be very helpful with using the Enrollment Scheduler.
Before you start planning your Spring 2025 semester schedule and before meeting with me about classes, it is a great idea to run and review your degree audit from MyRed. The degree audit is going to provide you with a list of ACE and CDR requirements that you have left to fulfill after your current Fall 2024 semester classes and previous coursework. We can always meet if you have questions about your remaining ACE and CDR requirements and how they might overlap with your major and any minors.
There can be many course options for some of your ACE and CDR requirements, so it can been difficult to choose a course or courses to focus on when building a schedule. I have found the ACE program's courses webpage at https://ace.unl.edu/courses/ to be helpful since it has both a list of available classes for a semester and some information about courses in different interest areas. Unfortunately, this webpage only includes the course prefix and number (i.e., MATH 106) and the course title (i.e., Calculus I). To make decisions about courses, you will want to review more information about a course on the Undergraduate Catalog at https://catalog.unl.edu/undergraduate/. The Undergraduate Catalog will list a course's prerequisites and description as well as information about meeting ACE or other requirement. Using the ACE courses webpage and the Undergraduate Catalog can help you make an informed decision about a course for a particular ACE or CDR requirement.
The Undergraduate Catalog is also a useful source of information about majors, minors, and policies as well as courses. Much of the information in your degree audit is based on your coursework and the information listed in the Undergraduate Catalog, so I would highly recommend learning to use it. If you need help with anything related to course choices and/or the Undergraduate Catalog, please don't hesitate to schedule a meeting with me.

Fall 2024 Advising Schedule
I will taking in-person, Zoom, and phone meetings in 45-minute blocks from 8:30 am to 12:15 pm and 1:15 pm to 5:00 pm every weekday when I am not taking Zoom drop-in advising meetings. I will also be taking Zoom drop-in advising meetings on Mondays and Fridays at 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Zoom drop-in meetings are being coordinated by the College of Arts and Sciences with a schedule and a link to the Zoom room available at https://cas.unl.edu/drop-in-advising-schedule.
