The International Student and Scholar Office (ISSO) extends a warm welcome back to all new and returning international students and scholars for the spring 2019 semester. On January 5, ISSO assisted with the undergraduate New Student Enrollment International Orientation, presenting information to students and completing required immigration check-ins. In addition, ISSO has held daily check-ins in their office for graduate students and any undergraduate students who were not able to participate in orientation.

ISSO also recently hosted an International Graduate Student Welcome Back Pizza Party on Saturday. January 12 in the Nebraska Union Regency Suite. They welcomed over 40 new and returning students with icebreakers, pizza, trivia, and board games led by their Global Peer Mentors Tamayo Zhou and Abby Kundu.

“The hardest part about moving to a new country is not having an immediate support system,” Kundu said. “It was great to have an event where international students got to know their fellow students and started to converse!”

Although the semester is still new, the ISSO staff has really enjoyed meeting new faces and seeing familiar ones at their events. They hope to see everyone again at their upcoming semester events.

Spring semester activities will include: ice skating; Sandhill Cranes and Archway Monument day trip and the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha. More information about these events will be available soon on the ISSO website.
