We want you to be as successful as possible at the upcoming career fair, whether you choose to attend in-person or virtually.
The career fair is an excellent opportunity to network and potentially find a job now or post—graduation. Stop by and speak with employers, and learn more about industries you are interested in. Follow these tips to have the most successful experience.
DO YOUR RESEARCH!
Check out the employers using the employer list before the fair, and do some research on their companies. Learn about employer by looking at their Handshake and LinkedIn profiles, company website, and social media accounts. Ask meaningful questions about the company and their roles.
CREATE AN ELEVATOR PITCH ABOUT YOURSELF
This will be helpful when introducing yourself to employers. It is a 30 second statement about who you are and what you are looking for in a career. Include an introduction, what makes you stand out, and information on your experience and skills. End with an open ended question for the employer to keep the conversation going.
DRESS TO IMPRESS
It is important to put your best foot forward in the career fair. Wear professional attire, but don’t be afraid to show your personality and style to your future employer.
SHOW UP ON TIME!
First impressions matter! If you are attending a session, be sure to show up at least 5 minutes early. For virtual fairs, make sure to test out all of your equipment prior to the event.
UPDATE YOUR LINKEDIN AND RESUME
Now is a great time to update your LinkedIn and resume with your most relevant work experience and skills. You can print off copies to give out to employers, or give them a business card that links your LinkedIn page.
