During October, we celebrate the start of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) and another year of the contributions people with disabilities make in the workplace and to the overall economy. Roughly one in four individuals in the U.S. lives with a disability. Yet, the disabled community continues to face barriers to employment.
Nevertheless, the strong post-pandemic rebound has resulted in an increase in disability employment being higher than ever before. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment-to-population ratio for disabled individuals now stands at a record high of 22.4%. Remote work has led to more individuals with disabilities being employed as well as increased use of more accessible technologies. For these reasons and many more disability employment continues to gain momentum and forethought within organizations.
