International students and graduate assistants are automatically enrolled in the student health insurance plan each semester.

International students and graduate assistants are automatically enrolled in the student health insurance plan each semester.

Automatic enrollment begins when the student health insurance premium is charged to the student account. Once the charges appear in MyRED, the next step is to accept or waive the coverage. Please review step-by-step instructions to accept or waive coverage if needed.

Timeline to Coverage:
When the charges first appear in MyRED, it may take up to 24 hours before the student can accept or waive coverage. Insurance charges may appear in MyRED as early as December 23 or any time after that date.

  • International students must be enrolled for spring classes before the insurance charge will appear in MyRED.
  • Graduate assistants must be enrolled for spring classes and hold an active appointment before the insurance charge will appear in MyRED.
  • The coverage period starts on January 1.

International students and graduate assistants will receive a general email on December 23 from the Office of Student Accounts regarding health insurance coverage for the spring semester.

Students are encouraged to contact Student Accounts at studentaccounts@unl.edu for assistance with accepting or waiving health insurance.

For help with your coverage, claims or dependent enrollment, please contact the University of Nebraska student insurance advocate at 866-351-4262 or unebraskaadvocates@uhcsr.com.

NOTE: The 2019 Holiday Closedown will begin Saturday, December 21, 2019 and conclude Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Staff will return to university offices on Thursday, January 2, 2020.
