2021-2022 Graduate Assistantship: Sustainability Specialist

Position Description: The University of Nebraska- Lincoln, Office of Sustainability (OS) is seeking a graduate student interested in the opportunity to assist in the coordination of sustainability projects and initiatives by joining the OS as a Sustainability Specialist Graduate Assistant. Specifically, this position will act as an assistant to the Sustainability Director, and be given various responsibilities as related to the implementation and completion of various sustainability activities, events, projects, and initiatives with which the OS is currently involved.

This paid position offers a flexible schedule of 20 hours per week during the semester and option to work full-time in the summer. Interviews will be set up for qualified candidates. The Sustainability Specialist will report directly to the Sustainability Coordinator, but work closely with all members of the OS staff.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in facilitating various sustainability programs for students, faculty and staff. Most specifically, the EcoHuskers program
  • Coordinate outreach activities, report and promote campus sustainability to the campus community
  • Build relationships with campus departments, offices and constituencies to advance sustainability
  • Present on sustainability topics to a wide variety of audiences
  • Respond to requests for information and resources
  • Pursue internal and external funding opportunities
  • Responsible for undergraduate team members
  • Collect and report data for collegiate sustainability reports (STARS)
  • Collect data for UNL’s Greenhouse Gas Inventory

Requirements and Desired Skills:

  • Must be enrolled as a graduate student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
  • Some experience in project management especially in a sustainability and resource management field
  • Grant writing
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a time sensitive environment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written form
  • This position works closely with students, faculty and staff on and off campus and must demonstrate tact and sensitivity to work with divergent views on sustainability
  • Have supervisory experience
  • Experience with managing complex and large datasets
  • Excellent at report writing and public speaking
