Marron, Niehaus elected to Graduate Council for 2022-2026 term

Graduate Council elects, Maria Marron and Elizabeth Niehaus, representing the humanities and professional education, respectively, will start terms in August 2022.

Maria Marron and Elizabeth Niehaus will join the university’s Graduate Council for the 2022-2026 term as the result of elections held during the spring semester. Graduate Council is a governing body acting on behalf of the graduate faculty at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and serves as an advisory body to the dean of graduate education.

Marron, a professor of journalism and a former dean of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, will join the Graduate Council to represent humanities including the Departments of Classics; Communication Studies; Modern Languages and Literatures; Philosophy; and the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. Her 4-year term begins August 2022 as the previous term ends for current humanities representative, Laurie Thomas Lee.

Niehaus, an associate professor and the graduate faculty chair for the Department of Educational Administration, will join the Graduate Council to represent professional education which includes the Departments of Educational Administration; Educational Psychology; Special Education and Communication Disorders; and Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education. Her 4-year term begins August 2022 as the previous term ends for current professional education representative, Kara Mitchell Viesca.

The Graduate Council meets formally as a whole approximately monthly during the academic year and consists of eight elected members of the graduate faculty, two graduate students elected by the Graduate Student Assembly, and the dean of graduate education who presides at council meetings and serves as its chair.
