The Office of the Dean of Graduate Education is currently seeking nominations for two open positions on the UNL Graduate Council. These four-year terms will commence in August 2024.

The first available position represents the Social Sciences, including departments such as Anthropology, Child, Youth, and Family Studies, Community and Regional Planning, Geography, History, Law, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Textiles, Merchandising, and Fashion Design.

The second position represents Agricultural and Biological Sciences, including the School of Biological Sciences, Nutrition and Health Sciences, and all departments within the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

The UNL Graduate Council plays a crucial role in advising the Graduate Dean and representing the interests of the Graduate Faculty. Its responsibilities include policymaking, approving graduate courses and programs, handling certain student appeals, and guiding graduate education at UNL.

Council members are expected to attend monthly meetings during the academic year, typically held from 2:30 to 5:00 PM on the first Thursday of each month. Preparation is required to review documents before each meeting.

Those interested in nominating themselves or a colleague for these positions are encouraged to email Lisa Cordonier at lcordonier2@unl.edu. The nomination period closes on April 2nd, after which a vote by the UNL Graduate Faculty members will be conducted.
