In this public talk, Riyad A. Shahjahan, PhD, will explore the question, “Am I A Scholar?” and how it intersects with scholarly ways of being, the geopolitics of knowledge, and the colonial legacies of time within the global higher education landscape. By analyzing cultural narratives and personal experiences, Shahjahan aims to challenge the dominant temporal paradigms that shape academic practices worldwide. A central theme of his discussion will be the concept of care as a scholarly practice, highlighting the significance of radical self-care and collective well-being among scholars from marginalized backgrounds. He invites participants to envision and reimagine a more inclusive and transformative academic environment that honors diverse ways of knowing and being.
