Nominations Open for Graduate Council Positions

The Office of the Dean of Graduate Education is currently seeking nominations for two open positions on the UNL Graduate Council. These four-year terms will commence in August 2025.

The first available position represents Engineering, including Biological Systems Engineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, the School Durham School Architectural Engineering and Construction, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical and Materials Engineering.

The second position represents the Arts and Architecture, including the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts including the School of Art, Art History and Design, the Glenn Korff School of Music, Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film and the Department of Architecture in the College of Architecture.

The UNL Graduate Council plays a crucial role in advising the Graduate Dean and representing the interests of the Graduate Faculty. Its responsibilities include policymaking, approving graduate courses and programs, handling certain student appeals, and guiding graduate education at UNL.

Council members are expected to attend monthly meetings during the academic year, typically held from 2:30 to 5:00 PM on the first Thursday of each month. Preparation is required to review documents before each meeting.

Those interested in nominating themselves or a colleague for these positions are encouraged to email Jason Carmichael at jcarmichael3@unl.edu. The nomination period closes on April 16th, after which a vote by the UNL Graduate Faculty members will be conducted.
