The University of Nebraska has partnered with UnitedHealthcare to offer UnitedHealthcare to provide a student insurance plan for Graduate Assistant and International students who are required to carry insurance.
UHCSR was successful in its bid to retain administrative services of the student health insurance plan for 2025-26. UHCSR’s successful bid resulted in minimal change to the annual premium, as well as certain enhancements to plan provisions, including:
- Preferred Provider/Out-of-Network Provider deductible was reduced from $500/$1,000 per insured and $1,000/$2,000 per family to $300/$600 per insured and $600/$1,200 per family.
- Preferred Provider urgent care center copay was reduced from $75 per visit to $50 per visit.
- Deductible for injury-only benefits associated with UNO/UNK athletes participating in the student health insurance plan was reduced from $500 per insured to $300 per insured.
- Annual student premium increased from $3,889.11 to $3,956.00, or $66.89 (1.7%).
Graduate Assistants & International Students
Graduate Assistant, and International students with “F” or “J” visa types are automatically enrolled each semester. Premium for the mandatory student policy is added to the student account and billed along with tuition and fees on the Consolidated Student Bill and can be viewed in MyRED. Each semester, the Office of Student Accounts will contact students through their @Husker email account with information about their enrollment and the steps required to accept or waive the insurance. The information can also be found on this site.
