The Office of the Dean of Graduate Education is currently seeking nominations for two open positions on the UNL Graduate Council. These four-year terms will commence in August 2026. Nominees must be voting members of the Graduate Faculty.

The first available position represents the Humanities including the departments of Communication Studies, English, Journalism and Mass Communications, Modern Languages and Literature, and Philosophy.

The second position represents Professional Education including Educational Psychology, Speech Education and Communication Disorders, Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education.

The UNL Graduate Council plays a crucial role in advising the Graduate Dean and representing the interests of the Graduate Faculty. Its responsibilities include policymaking, approving graduate courses and programs, handling certain student appeals, and guiding graduate education at UNL.

Council members are expected to attend monthly meetings during the academic year, typically held from 2:30 to 5:00 PM on the first Thursday of each month. Preparation is required to review documents before each meeting.

To nominate yourself or a colleague, click here to complete a brief nomination form. The nomination period closes on April 3rd, after which a vote by the UNL Graduate Faculty members will be conducted.
