To make course materials review easier, instructors planning Fall 2026 courses are invited to share a syllabus or reading list with the Successful Teaching with Affordable Resources (STAR) Team at STAR@unl.edu. In a recent UNL pilot, 89% of participating instructors discovered lower-cost options for selected course materials. Within a few weeks of receiving a syllabus or reading list, a member of the STAR Team will share options to consider, which may include Inclusive Access, library-licensed, and openly licensed materials. Sharing a current syllabus or reading list is enough to get started and does not commit an instructor to making changes.

Since 2019, programs affiliated with the STAR initiative have saved students over $24.5 million in textbook costs. STAR programs and team members support instructors interested in identifying more affordable and open course materials, including Open Educational Resources (OER), Inclusive Access options through Follett ACCESS and Unizin Engage, and Libraries Course Materials.

For more information about these programs, see the Affordable Content Faculty Guide (https://pressbooks.nebraska.edu/facultyaffordablecontent/ ) or email STAR ( mailto:star@unl.edu ).
