This spring, all University of Nebraska-Lincoln students are getting an @huskers.unl.edu email, which will improve overall service and resources for students. Beginning May 20, @huskers.unl.edu will become the primary email for all students and all official university communications.

Students whose emails are affected will be getting messages and reminders beginning this week with instructions.

If you have an @huskers.unl.edu email
Your current @huskers.unl.edu account will not change, but the virtual location of your mailbox will be moved. This transition will make your email account unavailable between 2 p.m. on April 13 and 8 a.m. on April 15. Starting Monday, April 15 your email will be available at mymail.unl.edu and you will log in using your My.UNL credentials.

Emails, folders and attachments will be transferred automatically to the new location for your mailbox, but you will need to manually move your OneDrive files.

Before 2 p.m. on April 13
Log in to your account at huskers.unl.edu with your current credentials and download your OneDrive files to your computer. Instructions are at go.unl.edu/download-onedrive.

After 8 a.m. on April 15
Log in to your account at mymail.unl.edu with your My.UNL credentials and upload your files back into OneDrive. Instructions are at go.unl.edu/upload-onedrive.

If you do not have an @huskers.unl.edu email
You don't need to do anything to prepare for the transition.

After 8 a.m. on April 15
If you would like to claim an @huskers.unl.edu address before one is assigned, you can request an account at huskers.unl.edu between April 15 and May 11. New email addresses will be available on May 13 and information will be available in MyRed.

If you have a work-related @unl.edu email
You should have received an email about how the transition will affect your @unl.edu email account. It’s likely that you will no longer need your @unl.edu email once you have your @huskers.unl.edu account. The @huskers.unl.edu email will allow for access to submit hours through ESS time, to schedule for Outlook calendars, and many other “work” related activities. If you have a business need to communicate about sensitive and confidential or high-risk data through email, check with your supervisor about how to continue with the @unl.edu for work-related activities.

Information Technology Services is here to help.
ITS has created a webpage at go.unl.edu/husker-email and is providing enhanced support during the next few weeks for all aspects of the email transition.

  • Online Resources Helpful links are posted for accessing email after April 15 and for reestablishing settings on electronic devices.
  • Hands-on assistance Dates and times are listed for pop-up help stations in the Nebraska Unions and Huskertech locations across campus.
  • Huskertech Support For anyone who can't visit a pop-up station in person, they can contact Huskertech Help Center at 402-472-3970 or mysupport@nebraska.edu.

The email transition team has been working to make this as easy as possible. Thank you for your patience as we strive to make your data and all university communications more secure.
