Presentation to focus on moving water

Three speakers will present a lecture Wednesday, April 25, titled "Economics, Engineering and Law: The Realities of Moving Large Quantities of Water Long Distances."

The presentation, part of the Nebraska Water Center's spring water seminar series, is scheduled from 3:30-5 p.m. in the Hardin Hall auditorium on East Campus.

Mark Pifher of Colorado Springs Utilities will discuss lessons learned by Aurora Water and Colorado Springs Utilities as they acquired water and built infrastructure, including pipelines, to deliver that water to their customers on the Colorado Front Range. Terry McArthur of HDR Engineering will address engineering considerations, including the costs to build and operate pipelines. Don Blankenau of Blankenau Wilmoth LLP will consider the legal requirements — from local ordinances to state and federal statutes — that must be met, as well as the likely political realities of building water pipelines in Nebraska.

Following the presentations will be a panel to address audience questions.
