The School of Natural Resources' Center for Advanced Land Management Information Technologies and the National Drought Mitigation Center will host members of NASA’s Soil Moisture Active Passive team on Monday, May 13 at 2 p.m. in Hardin Hall 901 for a special seminar, "Global High Resolution Soil Moisture Products from the Soil Moisture Active Passive Mission."

Speakers Narendra Das and Dara Entekhabi will discuss the SMAP mission, which seeks to monitor soil moisture to improve modeling and forecasting.

SMAP is intended to deliver unprecedented high spatial (~9 km) and temporal (2 to 3 days) resolution of global soil moisture observations that can be used to support various applications (such as weather forecasting, climate change prediction, agricultural production, water resources management, drought prediction and monitoring, flood area mapping, and ecosystem health studies) that require information on surface soil moisture for skillful modeling and forecasting.
