The Department of Agronomy and Horticulture Staff Advisory Committee announced the first winners of two new departmental awards at its annual Spring BBQ.

Mary Jo Haverkamp, payroll associate with the HAPPI Business Center, received the $250 Special Contribution Award. This award is based on nominations from other members of the department. According to her coworkers, Haverkamp’s dedication and hard work are greatly appreciated.

“She often comes in early and works late — even during the holiday closedown — to keep the department payroll moving along effectively and efficiently,” said Haverkamp’s nominating coworker. Haverkamp processed 440 new hires this year, an increase of more than 90 from the average.

SAC also announced the Professional Development Award, worth $250, went to John Dillingham, personnel generalist with the HAPPI Business Center, to help defray his expenses for gaining certification as a Strategic Professional in Human Resources.

SAC will be awarding a total of $500 in Professional Development funds each calendar year. This professional development award is available to any Department of Agronomy and Horticulture permanent staff member beyond the initial probationary period of employment.
