CASNR Week celebrated April 15-21

LINCOLN, Neb. — "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" is the theme for this year's week-long celebration of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources April 15-21.
Students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members are all invited to join in the annual celebration, said Ellen Hoffschneider, a sophomore agricultural journalism major from Arlington and the chair of publicity for the CASNR Week Program Council.

"CASNR week is a week of celebrating the college and the accomplishments of students and faculty," Hoffschneider said.

CASNR Week kicks off April 15 with the UNL Rodeo at the Lancaster Event Center at 7:30 p.m. It will be Wrangler National Patriot Night. This is a fundraiser to help support local veterans. A dance will follow featuring the band Dillon and the Dirt Road Detour. Additional rodeo performances will be April 16 at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The 1:30 p.m. performance will be Kid's Day with activities starting at 11:30 a.m. There will be stick horse races, an obstacle course, bean bag toss, roping, goodie bags and lots of fun for children. All activities are free. The 7:30 p.m. performance will be the Tough Enough to Wear Pink performance to raise breast cancer awareness.

The CASNR Week Recognition Banquet will be April 17. This banquet is for all CASNR faculty, staff and students. Keynote speaker will be Larkin Powell, professor, School of Natural Resources. Powell and his family were in Namibia, Africa, for a Fulbright Scholarship. He will talk about his experiences while in Africa.

Other highlights include:

– The Love Hall Chili Feed will be from 5-7 p.m. on April 20.

– The Alpha Gamma Rho and Sigma Alpha barbecue will be April 21 from 5-8 p.m.

All events are free and at the Nebraska East Union on UNL's East Campus, unless otherwise noted. A full schedule of events follows:

April 15 – 7:30 p.m., UNL Rodeo, Lancaster Event Center, tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students with UNL identification and for ages 13-18 and $5 for children ages 6-12, children under 5 are free. April 16 – 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., UNL Rodeo, Lancaster Event Center, tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students with UNL identification and for ages 13-18 and $5 for children ages 6-12, children under 5 are free. Tickets are available at the door of the Lancaster Event Center. Burr Hall Bull Fry, 4-8 p.m., fun and food on the East Campus green space.

April 17 – 4:30 p.m., Alpha Zeta initiation; 5 p.m., Student Involvement Reception; 5:15 p.m., CASNR Week International Studies Reception; 6 p.m., CASNR Week Recognition Banquet

April 18 – 9 a.m.-3 p.m., CASNR Week Blood Drive sponsored by Nebraska Community Blood Bank.

April 19 – 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Lunch on the Lawn; 5-7 p.m., Community Night

April 20 – Noon-12:50 p.m., Undergraduate TA Luncheon; 5-7 p.m., Love Hall Chili Feed.

April 21 – Noon-1 p.m., CASNR Club Adviser Community Luncheon; 5-8 p.m., Alpha Gamma Rho and Sigma Alpha Barbeque, Alpha Gamma Rho parking lot, $5.
