Joern to speak Oct. 7 on fire, grazing and climate interaction

Anthony Joern of Kansas State University will speak about how fire, grazing and climate interactions promote habitat diversity Monday, Oct. 7, at 3 p.m. in the East Union

Joern's talk is titled “Variable Fire, Grazing and Climate Interactions Promote Habitat Heterogeneity and Biodiversity in Tallgrass Prairie”. He is University Distinguished Professor of Biology and Co-Director, Institute of Grassland Studies, Kansas State University.

Joern served in UNL's School of Biological Sciences from 1977 until 2004 in capacities from postdoctoral appointment through full professor and also as director of the Cedar Point Biological Station. Since 2004 he has been at Kansas State University where Konza Prairie serves as his outdoor lab.

Joern's lecture, part of the Center for Grassland Studies' fall series, also is the Leu Distinguished Lecture, which is made possible by an endowment from the Frank and Margaret Leu Foundation.
