The eXtension Governing Committee has named Elbert Dickey eXtension interim executive director for 2014.

Dickey has a long history with Cooperative Extension, most recently serving as the dean and director of Cooperative Extension in Nebraska from 2001 until his retirement in July 2012. He also served in a two-year appointment as the national Extension and Education Advisor for the USDA’s Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service.

“We are very excited that Elbert will be leading the eXtension team this year. It is a critical time for eXtension and he will be a vital part of leading the change that is coming in 2014, “ said Dennis Calvin, eXtension Governing Committee chair and Extension director at Penn State University.

Dickey has held numerous leadership roles within the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy, the North Central Region Extension Directors, the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, and the eXtension Governing Committee.

“I am looking forward to this next year. My goal is simply to help strengthen the Cooperative Extension System and I believe eXtension is one of the keys to strengthening our future,” said Dickey.

In 2014 Dickey will work closely with the strategic planning process that eXtension will undergo this year as well as lead day-to-day operations for the initiative. He will maintain a headquarters office at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Dickey’s appointment became effective Jan. 1
