Barta Brothers Ranch field day June 28

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Barta Brothers Ranch will host a field day June 28.

The event, scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., will highlight a variety of research being done at the ranch, which comprises about 5,400 acres of rangeland in Brown and Rock counties. It is free and will include lunch.

Research to be featured will include intensive grazing of hay meadows and upland range; prairie chickens and grazing co-habitation; finishing heifers on grass; a 10-year grazing study; bio-complexity study; feeding distillers grains to yearling steers; and fly control.

The land was given to the University of Nebraska Foundation in 1996 by brothers Clifford and James Barta. The site includes a two-story headquarters building, 4,800-square-foot building.

To participate or for directions to the ranch, contact UNL Extension at 1-800-634-8951 or (402) 387-2213 by June 24.
