At ICMEE we would like to acknowledge the deeply troubling political reality we are currently living within the United States. We feel that is foundational to our mission to continue to support educators as we work towards normalizing humanizing praxis and racial justice in our classrooms, for our students and communities. As such, we would like to encourage the use and adaptation of our curriculum packets for multilingual learners that can help teachers to scaffold toward the necessary classroom conversations in this current political moment.
Last Spring our team developed learning enhancements appropriate for students between level 1 and 2 of English proficiency, in grades K-5th grade. These packets include topics that scaffold vocabulary and content related to understanding the USA, Community, and Differences. While these materials are most appropriate for the levels we have identified, we trust teachers' expertise in making necessary adaptations for their students developmental and proficiency levels.
These packets are free, valuable resources for multilingual students, their teachers, schools and the communities they serve.
