Life in Lincoln: Football 101 (Aug 28)
Curious about American football? Wondering why game days are such a big deal on campus? Join us ahead of the Husker Watch Party for Football 101, a fun, interactive introduction to the basics of American football and Husker football traditions!
This event is designed especially for international students who want to better understand the rules of the game, common football terms, and how to enjoy a game day like a true Nebraska fan. We'll also dive into Husker traditions, like chants, fight songs, and the game day experience, so you can feel confident and excited to join in the fun.

Ice Cream Social (Aug 29)
We’re kicking off the semester with one of our favorite traditions – the Ice Cream Social! Join ISSO, Graduate Studies, and Global Experiences for a fun-filled afternoon featuring delicious Dairy Store ice cream and refreshing frozen treats from Hy-Vee. This is the perfect opportunity to relax, play games, and reconnect with old friends while making new ones.
Whether catching up with friends about your summer adventures or meeting new faces, this event is the perfect way to start the semester.

From Hello to Hire: Career Fair Prep for International Students (Sept 3)
Navigating a career fair in the U.S. can be both exciting and overwhelming – especially for international students unfamiliar with the process. This interactive workshop is designed to help international students understand what to expect, how to prepare, and how to make a strong impression with potential employers. Topics will include how to research companies, tailor your resume, introduce yourself effectively, and understand what questions to ask at a fair. We will also discuss work authorization and how to identify employers open to hiring international candidates. Whether you're attending your first career fair or looking to sharpen your approach, this session will give you the tools and confidence to succeed.
Health Insurance Workshop (Sept 4)
Health insurance in the U.S. can be confusing – especially if it's your first time navigating the system. This workshop is designed to help you understand how student health insurance works and how to make the most of the resources available through the University Health Center.
You’ll learn what your insurance plan covers, how to access medical services on and off campus, when and how to seek care, and what to do in case of an emergency. We’ll also cover important terms like premiums, deductibles, and co-pays, and provide practical tips for managing your healthcare costs.
Whether you are new to health insurance or just looking to understand your plan better, this workshop is an excellent opportunity to ensure you are fully informed and prepared.
Rotary Picnic (Sept 7)
Join the International Student & Scholar Office at a special welcome picnic hosted by Rotary #14, celebrating international students in the Lincoln area. This annual gathering is designed to build friendships and connections between local families and our diverse international student community.
As proud representatives of Nebraska hospitality, the Rotary Club is excited to share classic American picnic traditions, complete with local favorites like corn-on-the-cob. Guests can look forward to delicious food, fun games, and plenty of opportunities to connect and learn more about Lincoln and Nebraska.
This long-standing event is made possible through the collaboration of community partners and has remained a cherished tradition for Rotary #14, dedicated to creating a warm welcome for local international students year after year.
Global Dessert Competition (Sep 12)
Do you have a sweet tooth and a love for international cuisines? Join us for the Global Dessert Competition, a delicious event that invites students to showcase their culinary skills by preparing desserts from their home countries or cultures!
Whether you're baking a beloved family recipe or trying your hand at a new treat from a different part of the world, this is your chance to share flavors, stories, and traditions with the campus community. Attendees will sample desserts, vote for their favorites, and enjoy a sweet celebration of global diversity.
