Seats available for JOUR348: The Real World

Seats are still available in The Real World, JOUR 348, a free one-credit course and an awesome opportunity to learn from professionals who work for a large metropolitan news organization.

Each week in the Real World class, which meets on Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m., a staff member from the Omaha World-Herald discusses his or her area of expertise. You’ll learn helpful advice about news writing, sports writing, business writing, arts and entertainment coverage, editing, interviewing, photography, video, audio, social media, marketing – and more. Your work in the course is writing a weekly reflection paper about the guest speakers. Once you successfully complete the course, which is pass no-pass, the World-Herald will reimburse your tuition.

After taking the course, you will be eligible to apply for a Real World fellowship, which is a semester-long paid internship at the World-Herald. In addition to pay for time worked, World-Herald fellows are reimbursed for 3 credit hours of tuition and receive a $2,500 stipend at the completion of the internship. You can apply for the fellowship any semester after taking the course.

To enroll in the Real World class, completion of a 200-level writing courses is preferred but not required.
