Description: This central responsibility of this internship is to coordinate, prepare, and transfer American Public Media (APM) domestic classical music submissions and their metadata to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The role includes auditioning, assessing, and logging domestic classical concert and in-studio audio; determining international broadcast rights; organizing and detailing concert metadata; digitally preparing audio for satellite transfer (ftp); and other duties as assigned.

Position Responsibility:

• With APM’s acquisitions producer, determine suitable content for transfer to the EBU;
• Work independently, as needed, to determine suitable content for transfer to the EBU;
• Audition, assess, and log domestic classical concert and in-studio audio;
• Prepare documentation for the EBU reflecting concerts’ metadata, including
occasional narrative descriptions, and hyperlinks to artist and program information;
• Digitally prepare audio in ProTools for transfer via satellite to the EBU;
• Become familiar with the production, acquisition, and editorial processes of APM’s national music programs;
• Write scripts on occasion, as assigned;
• Train one’s successor;
• Other duties, as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

• Preference given to students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, or who have graduated within 12 months from the start of the internship;
• ProTools fluency preferred (training offered and required otherwise);
• Fluency with Music Master database, the cataloguing system used by APM’s national classical programs (training offered and required);
• MS Office experience preferred.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

• Demonstrated interest in, knowledge of, and passion for classical music;
• Ability to write, meet deadlines, and work independently;
• Ability to learn new computer programs upon request;
• Close, accurate attention to detail.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• College or graduate student preferred
• Engineering and recording experience is a plus, but not required.

Compensation/Schedule:

Classical Music internships are part-time (15-20 hours/week) and last from 6 months to 1 year (maximum). We will accept applications year-round. This internship is compensated at $12.00 per hour. Bus pass or parking reimbursement is also available. College students are encouraged, but not required, to take the internship for course credit.
