Description: Position Summary:

Oversee all aspects of production for daily public affairs/talk program AirTalk. Lead and supervise producers, interns and volunteers. Ensure program consistently meets the highest journalistic standards of fairness and professionalism. Coordinate production of online content with digital team.
Duties: Position Responsibility:

• Serve as the leader of the program, with external focus and functions
• Communicates the vision of the program to the staff and collaborates with other programs/newsroom around program and newsroom vision
• Ultimately responsible for the program’s overall tone and balance.
• Consistently assess the program’s content and priorities.
• Ensure each day’s broadcast is of the highest standards and quality.
• Work closely with the show host making content and editorial decisions.
• Supervise editing and post production
• Supervise production and presentation of program’s online and social media content
• Assist with managing the budget
• Hire and lead staff by;
o Creating a culture of constructive performance coaching and regular, on-going feedback.
o Encouraging creativity, invention and productivity.
o Embracing diversity in staff make-up.
o Creating and encouraging individualized development opportunities and plans for staff.
• Make daily and longer-term assignments.
• Originate story ideas for the program and produce segments.
• Line produce live broadcast of the program.
• Develop and produce special programs and remote broadcasts.
• Cultivate sources at publishing houses, local universities, government agencies, community organizations, media outlets and others.
• Collaborate with other talk shows and reporters.
• Collaborate with Operations on engineering and equipment issues.
• Collaborate with Membership during fund drives.
• Assists with fundraising as appropriate
• Oversee archiving of the program.
• Oversee production of promos.
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in broadcast journalism or related field.
• Ten or more years experience, including one year experience managing the work of others.
• Three to five years experience managing a show
• Supervisory/management experience is required - must demonstrate an ability to foster high standards and an ability to coach, inspire and lead.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

• Ability to produce programs that meet SCPR standards
• Proven ability to contribute to a positive, diverse, creative, high performance culture
• Ability to advocate for program/resources/staff
• Supervisory skills and ability to recruit, coach and develop talent
• Leadership and personnel skills and ability to inspire and lead the staff.
• Ability to lead and manage change
• Skill and experience in budget management
• Ability to evaluate content/quality/sound and act decisively with sound management
• Knowledge of new media applications for digital distribution, audience engagement and community networking
• Ability to think and plan strategically
• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships and represent program internally and externally
• Ability to maintain high journalistic and production standards under deadline pressure.
• Digital Editing skills (ProTools or other).
• Strong research skills.
• Ability to deal with a broad variety of complex projects and assignments that may have impact across divisions
