Here’s a chance to take media ethics in a small-class setting

UHON 395 005 Media Ethics is now open to any CoJMC junior or senior.
CoJMC majors will be able to substitute this class for JOUR 487.
Wednesdays, 1:30-4:20 p.m., Andersen 109

The course will vigorously examine the multitude of ethical issues that frequently confront journalists – those engaged in the advertising, public relations, broadcasting and news-editorial professions – in today's contemporary world.
But this class also will examine ethical issues beyond journalism. It will discuss and evaluate "ethics in society" – political, racial, moral and social justice issues that need to be understood and confronted if we want to sustain a vibrant, equitable and functioning democracy.
In this vein, for example, students may be asked to thoroughly discuss whether Gen. Petreus should have resigned as CIA director for having an extramarital affair and whether the government had a right to access a private citizen's emails. Students also could be asked to write an essay on whether Twitter could have prevented – or substantially reduced – the carnage of the holocaust.
