Company name: Omaha World-Herald / Omaha.com
Company website: http://www.omaha.com
Company description or mission: The Omaha World-Herald is the flagship news organization in the Berkshire Hathaway Media Group's growing national newspaper chain.
Type of position: Job opportunity
Compensation: Paid
Hours: Full time
Category: News-Editorial
Position title: Online editor - social media
Position description:
The Omaha World-Herald is looking for an online editor to join our digital team.
Our online staff has more than doubled in size over the past two years, and we’ve redesigned Omaha.com to make the site more local, timely, useful and fun. We’re enhancing our tablet apps, focusing more on our fast-growing mobile site and launching new products to increase our audience reach.
We want someone interested in these ideas and experienced in daily work in the newsroom -- repackaging print content for online, building interactives and managing short-term online projects.
Candidates should be able to drive traffic to our content through social media and other online tools. One of your main responsibilities will be managing our Facebook and Twitter accounts. That will take someone with good news judgment, a smart sense of humor and an eye for the kind of hidden gems that get readers clicking.
You also should know some HTML and CSS and have basic video editing skills. Experience using an online CMS preferred.
Flexibility, creativity, initiative, speed and the ability to collaborate are key, as are basic writing and editing skills.
Required experience: One to three years of daily news experience is preferred, but we'll consider recent college graduates with strong internships.
Additional Requirements and General Information (education, skills, transportation):
Job location: Omaha, Neb.
Application deadline: March 25, 2013
Application instructions: Send cover letter, resume and work samples to Ben Vankat, Omaha.com editor, at ben.vankat@owh.com. Put “online editor job” in the subject line.
