The research enterprise at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) has achieved great success during the past decade. UNL has expanded the breadth and depth of its research, scholarship and creative activity; strengthened its strategic partnerships; and enhanced technology development efforts to commercialize research discoveries to benefit society and fuel Nebraska’s economy. Research funding, one important measure of research success, reached $215.7 million in fiscal year 2012. To build upon this success, UNL’s Research and Economic Development Growth Initiative has charted a course for UNL’s continued research growth, which includes the charge of reaching $300 million in total research expenditures by 2017. To help reach this goal, UNL’s Office of Research and Economic Development is seeking a qualified individual to assist with the development of competitive external grant proposals.
The proposal development specialist will help UNL grant applicants meet proposal preparation requirements. Specific responsibilities will include: 1) writing, editing and improving the content, clarity, organization and visual appeal of proposals; and 2) providing support to other members of the Office of Proposal Development as they manage large interdisciplinary or multi- investigator projects, including participating in writing and development team meetings and contributing to proposal conceptualization and strategy. Occasional travel required. A criminal background check will be conducted. Excellent benefits including staff/dependent scholarship program. Applicant review begins March 22.
Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism or Communications is required. One year of proposal development or writing experience in the public or private sector is preferred. Excellent project management, communication, writing and editing skills are necessary, as are exceptional organizational skills and the ability to quickly become familiar with complex subject matter in a wide variety of scientific and scholarly disciplines. Skills working with professionals from diverse backgrounds and the ability and flexibility to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment are essential.
