KOLN/KGIN-TV is accepting applications for a Full-time Assignment Editor

Our assignment editor is a newsroom leader for the market’s #1 TV station. The select candidate has decisive news judgment and knows how to find stories that lead the market every day. He/she needs to be aware of the market and its news, able to assign colleagues, able to work with Assistant News Director & News Director in coordinating staff in our three 1011 News Stations and to direct producers toward the best news coverage possible. The select candidate keeps an ear out for breaking news and collaborates with other newsroom leaders in coverage and live shots. He/She must convey a sense of urgency when making assignments to spot news. And, he/she must have organizations skills to keep a regular list of follow-ups on important stories.

Qualifications include, but are not limited to: a bachelor’s degree in journalism; professional journalism experience including story idea generation, research, news coverage coordination, live shot and interview arrangement, professional phone skills and assignments experience; strong workload, deadline and staff management abilities; knowledge of market’s issues and its people; clear, professional communication and leadership abilities; Computer, writing and video skills, including typing and editing/computer operations; etc.
