Internship opportunity at Phenomblue

SPECIAL PROJECT INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
Phenomblue, a full-‐service agency, is now seeking Special Project Interns for periodic event-‐based
opportunities, offering fast-‐paced, real-‐world agency experience. Interns will manage, run and promote
our Coverage tool during leading technology and marketing events, including SXSW Interactive 2013, to gain exciting marketing experience alongside mentors from the Phenomblue team. Undergraduate students should be studying marketing, journalism, technology or business in the Omaha and Lincoln-‐area with daytime availability Friday, March 7 – Tuesday, March 11. This ongoing opportunity will require students to participate in two additional events later this year depending on availability.

Coverage is a tool created and curated by Phenomblue, which aggregates relevant content and media reporting from events, adding strategic insights crafted for the modern business leader. For our first of three special projects, we’ll invite marketing students to spend five days (March 7 –11) in a Phenomblue “war room" for five hours a day, depending on availability, working alongside Phenomblue’s executive staff on Coverage.

Please email a cover letter and resume to Phenomblue Vice President of Marketing Kate Richling at
krichling@phenomblue.com.

Additional Information:
For last’s year SXSW Interactive, we launched our tool Coverage to great success. It allowed us to spend the week researching, reading and packaging brand experience insights from the most useful content out there. Although exhausting, it proved successful for its intended purpose. But it also worked in a surprising way, giving attendees stuck in long entrance lines the chance to read about events they missed or couldn’t get into. To get the word out, the project included an extensive amount of social outreach, identifying attendees via Twitter and tweeting directly at them to encourage them to visit Coverage. We also tweeted at those complaining they were missing the event or who were overwhelmed by all the coverage/news. And of course, we promoted the tool using #SXSW and other hashtags to generate visitors with a more broad appeal.

To kick off the event, we’ll establish who our target audiences is and how to best reach this market. For the following five days, we’ll provide students with laptops and other resources to best accomplish their efforts (along with drinks and snacks!). We’ll also project real-‐time analytics and give students an opportunity to work in a fast-‐paced, real-‐world environment. Daily check-‐ins will give students the chance to brainstorm on
strategy and analyze analytics to measure results and modify their efforts accordingly.

Students will explore a blend of the following skills and experiences in their internship:

Researcher – We’ll scour the internet for news and stories related to SXSW Interactive, deciphering what news and coverage provides strategic insight to today’s business leader and will serve our target audience as intended. We’ll utilize tools such as Twitter, Google News, RSS Feeds, etc. to find a variety of reliable sources.

Copywriter – We’ll read selected stories and write summaries, deciphering business insights to include
in article recaps, which will be posted on the Coverage tool and used for social outreach.

Content Manager – Running the Coverage tool will require proofing/editing excerpts and posting
them, while measuring site analytics to enhance our efforts.

Social Media Strategist – Coverage will be promoted through social outreach, identifying individuals to
get in touch with directly via Twitter and mass efforts that will drive visitors to the site.
