"Two Wings to Fly: Stories of fear, hope" to premiere at The Ross

The work of 13 photojournalism students will be featured in a multimedia presentation, “Two Wings to Fly: Stories of fear, hope and economics in the Dominican Republic, 7 p.m., March 13 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.

The presentation is free and open to the public. The images and stories were collected during a depth-reporting trip to the Dominican Republic during the winter break.

Students reported on topics and issues about the people and culture. A variety of stories, from sex workers and teen pregnancy to cockfighting and many more will be presented during the evening event.

The project is one of many in-depth projects that give students real-world international experience. This is the eighth trip to a foreign country to document a country’s people and culture.

Students who participated in the depth-reporting project are Jake Crandall, Andrew Dickinson, Kaylee Everly, Jennifer Gotrik, Anna Gronewold, Nickolai Hammar, Matt Masin, Joseph Moore, Anna Reed, Faiz Siddiqui, Brianna Soukup, Cara Wilwerding and Shelby Wolfe.

Bruce Thorson and Scott Winter, professors in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications, led the trip. Assistants Ben Rusnak, Amy Bruce and Brian Lehmann accompanied Thorson and Winter to the Dominican Republic.
