Award Winning community newspaper: Gering Citizen seeks Managing Editor

Family-owned, weekly community newspaper, the Gering Citizen, located in Western Nebraska, seeks a hard-working, creative and passionate managing editor to take this young, successful, award-winning paper to the next level. Duties include collaboration with the news editor, supervision of part-time staff and intern, composing in Quark, reporting, writing, taking and processing photos; planning and managing content from outside contributors, preparation for production. Must be highly organized, detail oriented and deadline driven. Performs other related duties as requested.

There are no duties involving advertising sales; however, some planning, coordination, generation of content and composition for special advertising sections is required. This position reports to the publisher.

Interest in sports is helpful.

An interest in building community relations is key.

Flexibility to work a schedule outside the standard Monday-Friday 8-5 work week is required. This job would be a great stepping stone for a recent graduate with solid experience on the college level or a seasoned journalist with editor experience. Low cost of living area, three hours from Denver, hunting, fishing, hiking opportunities right here. Salary is negotiable.
