ADPR 491-891 Special Topic: Sales Leadership (Julie Gade)
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
The sales cycle will be analyzed and practiced. Natural tendencies for buyers and sellers will be discussed, solutions will be offered. This course will also cover topics such as: Why certain people do what they do, the importance of relationships, leadership, the power of influence, why it’s important to be mentally fit for sales, managing your time to become more productive, the objections you most likely will face during a sales call, presentations, closing and following up with your clients and prospects, goal setting and tracking. Involvement and participation within the classroom activities will be important to the over-all grade. The course will utilize a variety of learning approaches including (but not limited to): (1) required readings, (2) classroom role plays and written presentations, (3) lectures and (4) open discussion about various sales-related issues.


BRDC 491 Special Topic: Broadcast Sales (Mark Vail)
Tuesdays, 5:30 p.m. – 8:20 p.m.
Many broadcasting companies all across the United States are looking for people with sales skills. They need trained, motivated, professional advertising sales representatives. Here's your opportunity to learn about this exciting opportunity. BRDC 491, Broadcast Sales is a theoretical and practical study of broadcast advertising sales with a heavy emphasis on in-class laboratory experiences. This class is oriented toward selling of local radio and television advertising. The sales approaches presented may be easily applied to other types of selling as well. Students will also have the opportunity to become certified as a sales consultant at the end of the class.


BRDC 491/891|Digital Motion Graphics (Matt Turner)
W 5:30 p.m. - 8:20p.m.
You’ll use Adobe After Effects to create digital motion graphics, which involves the animation and the creation of moving text and images. The course covers project creation, techniques, workflow and management as well as related post-production work such as color correction.


JOUR 491 Special Topic: Data Visualization (Matt Waite)
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30 p.m. – 4:50 p.m.
Communicators must have the skills to analyze and understand data, then communicate the stories hidden in the information. Learn to use storytelling, analysis and visualization techniques to inform people with data. In this class, you’ll learn what makes for good visualizations and how you can develop deeper understanding of a topic through a combination of words and graphics, forming a new kind of narrative on the Web.
