ADPR 491/891: CUBA
This study abroad course will be a resident program in Havana, Cuba with two overnight excursions. It will introduce students to the fascinating culture of Cuba. Studying the media environment and culture will allow students to learn the differences between U.S. and Cuban mass communications. Students will participate in a pre-departure introduction to Cuban culture and then use their observational and analytical skills in daily writing and discussion. The course includes visits to important cultural sites in Cuba and analysis of the factors that influence the media environment.

Program Highlights
• Visit important cultural sites in Cuba and analyze the factors that influence the media environment.
• Enjoy in a tour of Havana, a tour of the Univ. of Havana, three musical performances and six other cultural site visits that reflect the culture, art, and history of Cuba.
• Learn the differences between U.S. and Cuban communication strategies through guest speakers, field trips and cultural stops.
• Explore the rich cultural roots of Cuban music, art and theatre and its role in communication.

ADPR 491/891 & JOMC 491/891: CHINA
This course offers an immersive, experiential learning opportunity for students interested in understanding the media and advertising/PR industries in modern China. It aims to expose students to the unique Chinese history, culture, and policies that influence how journalists and advertising/PR professionals work nowadays. Meshing classroom instructions with field trips and culture immersion tours, this program is intended to train students how to work in global settings, especially China. Seminars at partnering Chinese universities will arm students with fundamental knowledge of journalism and advertising/PR practices by Western and Chinese professionals there. Students will then witness how media and advertising/PR industries function by visiting news organizations and advertising/PR agencies. Eventually, students will apply this knowledge to completing a professional project.

Program Highlights
• Students will be exposed to the unique Chinese history, culture, and policies that influence how journalists and advertising/PR professionals work nowadays.
• Classroom instruction, field trips, and culture-immersion tours will train students to work in global settings.
• Stay and study at Beijing’s Tsinghua University and Shanghai International Studies University.
• Explore Beijing- the political, educational and cultural center of China, and Shanghai- the largest city in China and the financial center of the country.

JOMC 491/891: IRELAND
The academic program will mainly consist of field experiences and guest lectures. An introduction and tour of Irish cultural landmarks and media outlets will be led by longtime author and journalist Frank Corr, editor of Hospitality News, author of Hotels in Ireland and "For the Good Times." Mr. Corr is also an associate of Conor Kerry and Associates, public relations firm, Dublin.

The country-wide program will expose students to cultural landmarks and media outlets across Ireland, including: National Print Museum, Literary walking tour of Georgian Square, Trinity College, National Gallery, The Irish Times, and The Irish Independent (Dublin), Wicklow's Historic Gaol and Irish National Heritage Park (Vale of Avoca), Irish Examiner (Cork), National Mark, Muckross House, Radio Kerry, (Killarney), King John's Castle (Limerick), TG4 Irish Television (Connemara), Clara Bog and Famine Museum (Clonmacnoise), PR Company (Dublin). The tour will culminate with a meeting with Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flannigan.

Program Highlights
• Develop an understanding of the diversity of peoples and cultures and of the significance and impact of mass communications in a global society.
• Learn first-hand from guest lecturers, local residents, Irish media outlets, and public relation agencies.
• Compare economics and business models of Irish media outlets and agencies to those models in the United States.
• Partake in an extensive tour of the country, featuring a mix of media outlets/agencies and historical/cultural landmarks.
