Make-A-Wish® Nebraska volunteer/development internship (unpaid, PT)

Make-A-Wish® Nebraska has a volunteer and development internship in the Omaha office. Must work 10-12 hours/week in Omaha with opportunities to work remotely. Postion is part-time and unpaid.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position involves working closely with the Manager of Events & Community Outreach and all staff members. The key element to this position is to combine community service with academic learning and reflection to benefit both student and community. The Volunteer and Development Intern is responsible for assisting in all development functions including special event planning, communications, media relations, and some graphic design. In addition the intern will also perform volunteer duties, such as holiday gift wrap scheduling, orientations, volunteer newsletter and other external event volunteer needs. Incumbents may be required to perform other job-related tasks than those specifically presented in this description. This is an unpaid internship. Priority will be given to candidates who can commit to multiple semesters.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Enrollment at a university or college with coursework towards Bachelors degree in marketing, advertising, communications, non- profit management or similar
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written styles; must possess strong grammatical skills and maintain the highest degree of accuracy in all work
• Organizational and computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of CS6 or higher preferred.
• High level of confidentiality; willing to submit to a background and credit check
• Commitment to and a passion for the work of the Make-A-Wish Foundation
• Ability to lift at least 25 pounds

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE ASSISTING WITH:

• Managing the Gift Wrap calendar schedule (if fall semester)
• Support Manager of Events & Community Outreach with social media and website
• Special event duties both internal and external including the planning, executing, and tracking of results
• Speaking engagement duties including representing Make-A-Wish, writing speeches and/or developing PowerPoint presentations
• Graphic design work for local flyers, direct mail, volunteer newsletter and other items as needed.
• Assist Manager of Events & Community Outreach in day-to-day operations of department.
• Other responsibilities as assigned by Manager of Events & Community Outreach.
