A documentary directed by Barney McCoy will be honored with an Award of Excellence by the 2015 Canada International Film Festival. McCoy is associate professor of broadcasting at the UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications.
They Could Really Play the Game: Reloaded was selected by Canada International Film Festival judges as one of top 10 films in this year's documentary feature category.
“We are honored that the Canada International Film Festival judges recognized the efforts of all those involved in the production of this documentary,” said McCoy. “We were grateful to have been able to preserve a piece of this wonderful living history to share with present and future generations.”
The film is about the 1952-54 Rio Grande College (Ohio) basketball team that saved the college from bankruptcy thanks to the record-setting scoring of Bevo Francis and his barn storming teammates.
McCoy's documentary received production support from the College of Journalism and
Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Painted Rock Productions, Blue Skies HD Video and Film Productions, and WOSU Public Media. The documentary was among several hundred films submitted to this year's Canadian International Film Festival from over 30 countries around the world.
The Canada International Film Festival will be April 11-12 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The Festival will showcase a wide variety of North American and International Feature Films to thought-provoking Shorts, Documentaries, Music Videos, Animations, Experimental Films, Student Films, a Screenplay Competition, and more.
