
University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications journalism and broadcasting students have begun to accept internships nationwide for this semester and the summer.
Newsrooms across the nation will be welcoming CoJMC students this summer. Students will continue to receive offers as the spring semester commences, but some students already have secured internships.
“We’re proud of our students,” said Mary Kay Quinlan, associate dean and journalism and broadcasting sequence head. “The fact that they regularly are tapped for competitive internships reflects the solid preparation they get in our college, which employers recognize.”
Senior Reece Ristau will be a features intern at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette this summer in Little Rock, Arkansas. He previously held internships at Variety magazine and the San Antonio Current. He is currently a fellow at the Omaha World-Herald.
Sophomore Chris Bowling will intern at the Atlanta Journal Constitution this summer. He previously held internships at the Norfolk Daily News and the Lincoln Journal Star. He is also a current Omaha World-Herald fellow.
Senior Lexie Heinle will be a data journalism intern at the Buffalo News in Buffalo, New York this summer. She previously held an internship with UNL University Communications and is a past Omaha World-Herald fellow.
Senior Mara Klecker will intern at the Minneapolis Star Tribune this summer. She was previously an intern at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and the Lincoln Journal Star. She is currently the managing editor the Daily Nebraskan.
Junior Natasha Raush will be an intern at The Oregonian this summer. She was previously an intern at the Norfolk Daily News and the Omaha World-Herald.
Several CoJMC journalism students have accepted prestigious internships in Nebraska.
This summer, Junior Becca Mann will be an intern at the Grand Island Independent. She is currently a reporter at the Daily Nebraskan.
Junior Marcella Mercer will intern at the Norfolk Daily News this summer. She is currently a reporter at the Daily Nebraskan.
Senior Michael Shoro will be an intern at the Omaha World-Herald this summer. He was previously a fellow at the paper and an intern at the Lincoln Journal Star. He is currently the print news editor at the Daily Nebraskan.
The Lincoln Journal Star will have three new interns from the CoJMC. Junior Vanessa Daves and sophomore Katie Knight began their yearlong internships in January and junior Mac Wall will begin his yearlong internship in May.
Students have also accepted internships at broadcasting stations.
In Nebraska, senior Lucas Bond is an intern at KETV in Omaha this semester, and junior Lianna Prill will intern there this summer.
Junior Benjamin A. Schoenkin is at KOLN-TV 10/11 News. He was also elected to the NBS-AERho board as a student governor.
This semester, junior Seth Korte is an intern KFRX in Lincoln, freshman Rachel Long is with Time Warner Cable’s sports channel, and junior Kennedy Stowater at KLKN.
Junior Michael Dixon has accepted a play-by-play broadcasting position with the Forest City Owls baseball team of the Coastal Plains League in Forest City, North Carolina. Dixon is currently a sports reporter at the Daily Nebraskan.
