DEADLINE: Apply today for Omaha Press Club Scholarships

UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications is now accepting entries for three important competitions in partnership with the Omaha Press Club.

Students are encouraged to apply for the following awards. One candidate for each award will be chosen from CoJMC, who will go on to compete against students from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Creighton University. Final award decisions will be made by the Omaha Press Club. Students must apply by Feb. 15, 2016, at http://journalism.unl.edu/scholarships-aid

The Mark Gautier Internship Award provides a $1,500 cash award to a student who has completed and internship at an Omaha television broadcast or cable news organization. To be eligible a candidate must be a currently enrolled major in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, who has successfully completed an internship at an Omaha television broadcast or cable news organization. To apply, students must complete the application form and submit a letter detailing their internship experience, academic achievements, financial need and hopes for their future career.

The Jim Denney Good News Scholarship provides a $3,000 scholarship to a student who demonstrates an aptitude for feature writing. To be eligible a candidate must be a currently enrolled major in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, who will also be enrolled in the summer or fall of 2016. To apply students must complete an application from, submit a resume and submit a clip or link to a feature story that appears in print, TV broadcast, online stream or other communications platform.

The Howard Silber Scholarship provides a $2,500 scholarship to a student who demonstrates an aptitude for hard news writing. To be eligible a candidate must be a currently enrolled major in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, who will also be enrolled in the summer or fall of 2016. To apply students must complete an application from, submit a resume and upload a published hard news clip.
