Need experience? Want to get a job? Help is at hand.

The College of Journalism and Mass Communications is celebrating Internship Week Sept. 12-15 with a series of events aimed at helping students get experience in the professions before graduation.

The week will kick off Monday, Sept. 12, with mentors from Sandhills Publishing as they host a meet-and-greet session in the lobby of Andersen Hall from 9 a.m. to noon. Internship seekers will enjoy hot coffee served by Jacht Club, the new student ad agency, while learning about current opportunities from Sandhills’ top recruiters.

Internship Week continues Tuesday, Sept. 13, as Clint! Runge, creative director of Archrival, offers advice on developing professional portfolios. Examples of portfolios that will stand out will provide inspiration. Free food will be available at this 5:30 p.m. presentation in Room 15.

On Wednesday, Sept. 14, experienced journalism students will talk about their personal internship experiences and provide invaluable insight to young hopefuls. The session will take place in Room 15 at 5:30 p.m. and will include free food.

Advertising/Public Relations students will hold a similar session the following night, Thursday, Sept. 15, at 5 p.m. in Room 109. Hear from students who have had internships in a number of cities and at both agencies and client locations.

Immediately following, CoJMC Internship Week 2011 will culminate with a resume clinic on Thursday evening. Faculty member Carla Kimbrough will help students understand how to transform relevant internship experiences into a job-winning document.

It is never too soon, or too late, to start thinking about an internship. Join the CoJMC Internship Week activities and learn more about jump-starting career opportunities.
