Dear Students,

To all new students: Welcome to UNL and the College of Journalism and Mass Communications and to all returning students: Welcome back.

I hope you had a relaxing and rejuvenating summer. Here at the CoJMC we’ve been getting ready for another exciting semester and are happy to have you in Andersen Hall. I hope you, our new students, have settled in comfortably in your residence halls and to the start of an exhilarating college career at UNL, a Big 10 university and one of the premier Land Grant institutions in the nation.

As you acquaint – or reacquaint-- yourselves with Andersen Hall, you’ll notice several updated classrooms. We’re very excited about these new, collaborative spaces and appreciate your patience as contractors put the finishing touches on these projects.

The important changes are:

Lower Level: The new immersive digital and social media hub is in its final stages of completion but is open to students. Furniture will continue to be added as it arrives.

Room 114: Was formerly Rooms 113 and 114.
Room 336: Was formerly Rooms 335 and 336. The walls and door and expected to arrive this weekend. Thank you for your patience.

Other classrooms have been reconfigured and technology has been updated.

This semester at the CoJMC will include many engaging and enriching events, including two speakers as part of the Hearst Speaker Series on Diversity and Modern Media. Donna Brazile, interim chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, will visit on Oct. 13, and David Brooks of The New York Times will speak as part of the E.N. Thompson Forum on Oct. 6.

Most importantly, I hope to see all of you at our Backyard Barbecue tomorrow, Tuesday, starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Centennial Mall side of Andersen Hall.

It has never been a better time to be a part of the CoJMC. Please know that we are committed to your success. Our hands-on opportunities allow you to hone your skills and prepare you for a great career in the media or media-related industries. Please remember that your time with us is precious and that you should engage with your professors and fellow students, to participate in clubs and opportunities available to you and to grow personally and professionally. We’re ready to help you Start Here. Go Anywhere.

Please visit any time to let me know how you are doing and how we can help.

With every good wish as you start the new semester,

Maria B. Marron
