Jacht Agency, the student-run advertising agency at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications, began work the first week of class with a new team of 35 students.

The team was hand-picked last spring from the largest number of applicants the agency has ever received, said founder and advisor Dr. Amy Struthers. Jacht’s student staff produces professional grade integrated digital, print, video, and social media campaigns for a wide range of professional clients.

Returning for her third semester at Jacht, first-time CEO Sydni Rowen is optimistic for this semester. “Jacht is an extraordinary balance of being both fully confident in your abilities as a young professional and asking lots of questions with humility as a student. This semester’s team has the will to flourish with a foundation of integrity and dependability. There’s not a better place to learn than in an environment filled with motivated, creative and passionate peers, and the Fall 2016 team is just that.”

This semester, Jacht will be continuing work with former clients including Midwest Ballet Company, Nebraska Shrine Bowl, and Nebraska Broadcast Association. The agency is preparing for the October launch of the city bus campaign it has been working on since the spring. The work being done for other clients will be released throughout the semester.

“Jacht is a showcase experiential learning opportunity for CoJMC students,” said College of Journalism and Mass Communications Dean Maria Marron. “It provides real-world experiences in advertising, public relations, photography, accounting and myriad other aspects of business for students from across disciplines. It operates as a viable student-run business and is a tremendous asset to the college.”

Jacht’s team includes students with majors of advertising and public relations, journalism, broadcasting, accounting, graphic design, marketing and more. The agency is hoping to expand its opportunity to more colleges and students across campus. Jacht will also be working to grow its client base both in and outside of Lincoln.
