Letter from the Dean

Dean Maria Marron
Dean Maria Marron

Dear students,

The College of Journalism and Mass Communications is considering a renaming and rebranding campaign. The term “mass communications” is somewhat redundant given that communications are increasingly tailored to specific individuals and are segmented for various audiences. We believe the name needs to reflect journalism AND advertising/public relations as well as areas such as virtual reality, 360-degree video, 3-D and so forth. Many programs have changed their names in recent years, e.g., The Media School at Indiana University, the College of Media, Communication and Information at the University of Colorado, and the Medill School of Journalism, Media and Integrated Communication at Northwestern University. Please take a few minutes to respond to this survey and let us know your thoughts. Please respond by Tuesday, Nov. 8.
